Twin Cities Marathon

By Adam Majewski

Alhamdulillah the marathon This past sunday was both a blast and a bomb for my self as I paced the runners to a race which ended up getting them all across the line at least 10 minutes faster then they where scheduled to do so. How ever un like most of my past race's not many know this that mentally I did not hit the wall but physically I did how ever hit the wall and quite hard too. To the point where mentally it started effecting me on some level. Which didn't bother me, but made me think "wow pacing sucks". This though made me have to think about what I need to do for the next time I choose to pace In Shaa Allah. I do hope to some day pace for other races, It just wont be for a while once some parts of my life moves on.

Twin Cities Race Training Final Training

Well as most probably saw I stopped posting around week 7. One of the major reasons for it was because I didn't want to get in to bad habits of using this blog to complain about my training. But as most people know there is less then a week left until race day. This year though I am not really looking forward to doing the twin cities marathon and I truly don't know why I'm really just not feeling it this year I really love running. It's just doing it as a job really kinda sucks most of all the fun out of it. I look forward to maybe taking a short break from running to reboot my system as a runner after the Twin Cities Marathon. I hope all will go well though In Shaa Allah.

Twin Cities Race Training Entry 7

Alhamdulillah, this weeks training I am fully satisfied with my mileage. even though it's still low per week, I had a good  long run today a very good long run. my running on friday though i feel was the best due to I ran only 8 miles but it was tempo at 6:53 per mile so i emotionally feel really good about it. Allahu Akbar. Well hey if any one wants to come running with me some time In Shaa Allah, they are more then welcome to. I normally run around the lakes which is a bunch of good routes so if you're interested it'd be great to have a running partner.

Food Through Faith: Introduction To Dietary Laws-Islam part One

By Adam Majewski
First Posted at Running Through Life.
Date: July 27, 2013

Halal, The Islamic word for that which is lawful or permitted. In Islam Dietary practices are a large part of the faith due the obvious, which is food is needed to servive in this life time. Many other religious faiths have Dietary rules or laws yet provide very little information to them out side of their own general population of observers. In Islam how ever there is much public information and public forums provided especially in the west to inform any who are interested about the religious practice of Halal eating and drinking. These resources are not very common else where out side the Muslim communities which only, for the most part at least provide them to those who are practicing muslims. Never the less this here is to help give some insight to those interested and wanting to read, some what of an introduction to Halal Food Laws.

Please bare in mind how ever, even though I am a Muslim, I do need to inform you that I am not an Imam, I am not a sheikh, and do not hold advance degrees in Islamic studies. So all the information I here am providing is based on my own research via personal research. Talking with Imams, Sheikhs and those who do hold advanced degrees in Islamic studies. I do encourage you to also do your own research as well to better inform yourself and understand Halal dietary laws more, as well to take this more at face value then as definitive information.

To begin the more in depth section of this article I would like to start with just a few main points for the non-muslim who may not have known anything before this article about Halal food and eating, as well the muslim who could probably use a little more knowledge to better fallow their own din. These five starting points are just a beginning point and more will be provided as this article and series progresses, these are five of what I would say are some of the five most Haram Items to eat and drink. my reasoning for beginning with this is because most non-muslims I have spoken to tend to ask this question first of what are you not allowed to eat and drink:

1. Pork, as most know Muslims even my self do not eat pork. Pork in Islam is Haram meaning forbidden to eat, by Muslims. For a veriaty of reasons, both religious and health related reasons. some of which to the non- muslim may seem weird or really out there.

2. Alcohol, as all know it is a fermented beverage which very from area to area, there is probably no other beverage which is more Haram then this one. the reason being is the fact of its potential consuquences. Not because of the drink it's self but that it cause's intoxication. Which very very Haram and in turn makes the drink Haram.

3. Animals not slaughtered in a Zabihah way, which is the sanctioned way of slaughtering animals for human consumption.

4. The consumption of blood of any kind or form.

5. The fifth of the major Haram things to eat is meat of animal which are already dead.

Proceeding on with going over the reasoning for these both from a religious and nutritional views. I feel that it would be best to start with the easteist to explain first. This is of the cosumption of blood. From a religious view it is pretty obvious that it is believed that most of ones soul is carried with in the Blood and is in esseints a persons very being, including animals and so to consume blood is to consume the animals soul. From a nutritional stand point, even though Blood is the carier of many nutritional compounds and holds large amount of electrolights and high amounts of Iron the body needs. What many people do not realize is the it is the carier of many other things such as dieses, viruses, pathogiens. the blood for the body is the super high way which transports all good things in the body to where it needs to go as well for the bad things to get them out of the body. So From the Nutritional standing point there is nothing good about consuming anything with blood and in fact everything bad with it so I suggest no one consume things with blood in it. Both non-muslims and muslims.

The second of the Haram items I have spoken about is that of eat animal which have died before a person finding them. From the spiritual aspect this animal has not been slaughtered in the Islamic way, in the name of Allah for our consumption to feed our physical state of being. So in turn this animal is Haram to eat. From a nutritional standing it is more of a common Sence to not eat this, yet many people would beg to differ in on this. mainly because of up bringing. Yet I feel people don't give everyone the benefit of the dought and just expect most people to be stupider then they really are. Example a person who is considered a "red neck" by american standarads who grew up in the sticks truly has been taught not to eat wild game they've found randomly in the woods through what their parents have passed down to them as knowledge they gained from their parents. In scientific basics, from the time that animal has died to the time you found it is enough time for all the basic micro organisims very few people can see with the naked eye

Zabihah, the Halal why to slaughter Animal for human consumption and the third section on my list that if not done is Haram. Well, to start the importants this way of slaughter, spiritually is the fact that we as Muslims are commanded to remember Allah(swt) in everything we do. Also by slaughtering this way from a spirituality and religion while saying Bismallahi Ramnir Rahim as well having the animal be laying down, puts the animal in a state of peace from Allah for the animal while he is slaughtered for the consumption. For nutritional standing's one has to put in to perspective the state of affairs when it come's to the animals well being. When an animal is scared knowing it is going to die soon, or just generally scared it sends a flow of toxic enzimes through its body. These toxins then translate in to the meat which is "harvested", which is the industries technical term for slaughtering an animal for consumption. At first it may not harm a person yet over time these toxins can build up in a persons body from consuming such toxins in a persons meat leading to many different health problems.

Now in this last section I'm actually rapping up part one here by speaking on pork and alcohol both in the same section. First pork, in Islam why the command to not eat pork was made for the most part. at least the part we as people can understand was because, for us muslims, according to what we believe at one point Jesus(may Peace and Blessings be upon him) was arguing with a few Jinn and after some time of argueing they finally asked him if they may go in to pigs as their punishment and he had granted this. Also because of the purpose of pigs where give on earth earth, pigs are very unclean animals, even to this day. Not that their hygine is unclean. It's that for thousands of years they where and still are the grabouge disposal's of a lot of waste products which then leaches in to the flesh of the animal making it very unclean to eat. pigs are like the cat fish of the land animals. They are bottom feeders, or in their case, omnivorous creaters. They've been made to be able to digest almost any thing as an animal. so what ever they eat like any other animal including humans what ever they eat effects the rest of their systems and if they are eaten them selves affect that which eats them. It's a long chain of events through the acts we do.

now what i have spoken about here is just the tip of the iceberge if you will on the Haram items to eat and I would greatly suggest every one to learn more especially my brothers and sisters in Islam since we are commanded to seek knowledge. I will finish her with part one of Islamic dietary laws and soon pick up with the Halal section, soon In Shaa Allah.

Thank you very much for reading and stay tuned for the rest of this series, In Shaa Allah.  Assalam Alakum Wa Rathamullah Wa Barakatuh.

Twin Cities Race Training Entry 6

Bismillahir Ramnhir Rahim

Alhamdulillah I was able to go on my first mid distance run this past week which felt really good after going through ramadan last month. In Shaa Allah I will be doing better the next few months until the TC Marathon. I have started working more with GDM recently. I am doing some writing work with them In Shaa Allah I have recently finished a donation pledge letter for them. Last week I was able to get up to about 30 miles for the week total which is not all that much but since ramadan i feel good about it Alhamdulillah. My body is still a little week from fasting but I feel I am getting stronger. slowly but surely again.

Bismillahir

Allah Please except this Dua as I come in to my own as a runner I wish nothing more then to have the strength to continue and complete the marathon this year as I pace other runners.

In shaa allah

In Sights In To Ramadan As A Muslim

Well as Eid fast approaches the ending celebration of Ramadan, many Muslims begin to reflect on how they may have done. over the month long fast. A fast which is to put the religious faith of all to the test and life's reality in the hearts of the everyday Muslim. Many Muslims begin to question their choices and what they are doing with their lives. It also makes them question what they may need to change or what they may need to add to their lives to not only become better Muslims but also better people in a world where not all people are Muslims or of the believers. How they interact with others and them selves. It truly a final time of reflection for Ramadan and see where you would like to be with in the next year or so as a person, as a Muslim or what eve title you choose to prescribe to as a human.

In Sights In To Ramadan As A Muslim

Well ok, as of 23 of Ramadan I have had one of the biggest revelations of my life. At least that of one which has to do about relationships and potential marriage. A sort of interesting way of assessing your relationship with your significant other. Now if your muslim this is more of a way in which Allah tells us if the person you are to marry, is truly to be the person you are to marry according to what he has been written. Now what this revelation is in Islamic terms is that If you are both still together in good standings meaning are not arguing and having relationship issues this means you are both meant to be together for the rest of your "Natural Lives" according to what Allah has written. Pretty much meaning if you are, as a couple are able, as a couple, to work through your relationship issues then this means you are meant to be with one another. At least until the next Ramadan that is. For the most part. Even though people do not really know what will happen from day to day, we a lot of the time are able to infer that some events may accur yet should not be to surprise if they don not happen according to how we inferred before had. The reason being, that we truely have no control over our lives no matter how much we wish to try and kid our selves. One thing I can truly say an am glad about is that if a relationship in Islam can make it through Ramadan with wonderful communication keeping in mind that it is Allah's will which matters most.

For those who are non-muslim I do suggest that if you are in a relationship with some one and if you want to test your relationship. Meaning if you want to see is you both are truly meant to be together both of you you should both fully fast during our holy month of Ramadan. You should both be seeing one another during this time, other wise it defeats the purpose of this test. you may not believe what I believe and all muslims of why we are to fast during Ramadan but just try it and see how you feel and see how it will test you and your relationships with others.

Twin Cities Race Training Entry 4

As Training for the TC Marathon no matter what type of runner you are, only you can put in the work and need to put in the work. No one can do it for you how ever during race no one cheer for you but the spectators. Most marathon runners need their spectators, even the elite runners do. very few runners I've ever met need that out ward support in order to run a marathon as motivation. The ones for the most part how ever, who do need it are for the most part usually are newer runners and have not found their groove yet, Or merely run because they wanted to see if they could in general finish a marathon. My self I have noticed that even though I once did not need much motivation to train how ever I have needed much more motivation to run now a days just on the bases of the fact that my work schedule has be come such that I am so tired that running takes a lot out of me no matter what. I usually have been working night's until 12:30 some times 1:30 in the morning. It's very hard to handle and I need to get back to running, I miss it so much the amount of running I use to do. now it seems my running has been dropped down to a mere few miles. or at least what I consider a mere few miles a week.

I will be hopefully getting back to it In Shaa Allah. I don't know how or when But hopefully it will all happen soon.

Insights In To Ramadan As A Muslim

Ramadan Kariim

To the life long practicing Muslim Ramadan is not a new part of their practice. Fasting during day light hours for a month is not new. They know how to go about it practicing with persistent honest conviction. to the new Muslim how ever it is much harder then they may first persieve it to be. It's not the easiest thing in the world. Not even for my self being in the career choice that I am it is very very hard. I do have to admit that some times I wonder why I'm fasting, then I read a few pages of the Quran and I remember why. Its because of my faith. It's because of what I believe. It is part of who I am as a person. If I am to believe what I believe, the need to practice what I preach is part of it other wise then I become one of the hypocrytes and can not speak about what I believe in so I fast to show that I walk the walk as well talk the talk.

Love Letters From Islam

To My Dearest Khadra

I love you, from your Hijab to your chin, from your eyebrows to your shoulders, from your chin to your henna painted toes and from heart to your strong spirit. you are the most wonderful woman of my life. You are a woman of very few words yet very great actions. A writer, adventurer, activist  of sorts. You condemn the unjust and raise the up the just. I miss your sweet face and your kind words of encouragement I wish to alway's be with you. I do understand, that what I write in these letters of my experesive emotion towards you in condemned by many who find these words to be against gods wish for our modesty. Yet the emotions and feelings God gives us is never truly modest, not by any standard. These feelings of love which that what Allah is, is the strongest of them all. Be has given every person the gift of love. The ability to love one another as humans, one of many which is seldemly ever show between people. Especially amongst us muslims. Not many of our fellow muslims know or understand any form of love except the love of Allah even though we are commanded by him to love each other as we love him while we are in this life.

you and I are of the lucky few who are able to show such love to each other. A true love from ones heart. Coming from it's greatest depths, in such a way that it almost match's that of the love of God we both have. My heart on either is yours for ever. In Shaa Allah.

-Always yours  your fiance Adam Majewski

Food Through Faith: Introduction To Dietary Laws

By Adam Majewski
First Posted: July 24 2013 at Running Through Life

In religion and spirituality today many faiths have set rules and regulation centered around food yet only a handful actually fallow them. These rules and regulations are their forms of nutritional guide lines yet to a point they are some what flawed. I'm not trying to say that these food laws should be dismissed or put down at all it's just that they, like current nutritional information need more work and information, more research if you will to inform those who put them in to practice. As a practicing Muslim even I put Halal eating practice with out full knowledge of what some of the rules mean.

Also most of the major religious faiths have religious forms of fasting. The two of which are well known around the world are Ramadan, in Islam and Lent in Christianity. Now the religious implications from a nutritional standing has very little to do with the health of a persons body only the nutrition of a persons Spirit, Soul or Ruh. From an actual nutritional stand point this religious fasting is not so much problematic, only it does have to be watched do to a general fact of depending on how a persons body reacts to such fasting ones body can be harshly effected at times. No matter what the effects are, the need for religions dietary rules and laws from a religious implication is very much needed do to the fact that, until if and when the research/information becomes available, these dietary rules help keep people healthy when properly implemented. these dietary laws 1000 years ago where not only a way to please God and do as he commands but it was actually the healthiest way to eat even though most people didn't know of it. Even just over 100 years ago these dietary laws where some of the most healthiest ways of eating, mainly due to people being able to eat more naturally. Foods then where not overly processed, yet now since the agricultural revolution real food has be come some what non-existent. This makes it hard to eat according to Religious dietary ristrictions to some point, mainly cause of the fact most "food" out there is no longer real food, but imitation food. Making it hard to keep to religious dietary restrictions, especially with ing Hindu, Jewish and Islamic dietary laws.

With the boom in agricultural business and marketing. It comes down to that most of what people eat, at least here in the U.S. is made for profitability to the companies which make them. Not for the consumers of these products or even the growers of the ingredients who bring them to the market. When all in all, is much harsher on a person body and is harsh to the religiously observant due to the fact that these individuals then have to check if these products actually adhere to these individuals dietary rules, laws and/or restrictions.

Now with in this set of articles, which I will be posted here, we will be fallowing some of the most major dietary laws both from a religious aspect as well the nutritional relevance of them, past, present and future. What is hoped by these articles is that of bringing understanding, knowledge and hope of a change in food and faith as well allow for a journey through both food and faith for the religious and non-religious.

So as we travel this road together Please keep an open mind. These articles are not meant to convert anyone to anyway of thinking or belief system, only to put the information there for all to see. As well to inform. It will then be for you the reader to choose what to take from these readings and leave what you will. Like a great meal I now leave you with this until next time Bon appetite and enjoy.

Love Letters From Islam

To my Dearest Love Khadra

True humanly love, directly from the deepest parts of ones heart is the greatest gift anyone can bestow on another person. To its fullest can only be given to one person. You once told me that beauty is nothing if there is nothing to offer. That if a man say's your beautiful specifically the man you plan on marrying, In Shaa Allah, it means nothing if you have nothing to offer in return for such a belief and statement from this person if you have nothing in return to offer this person who loves you the most. With the previous statement of that true human love directly from the deepest of ones heart, you have one of the greatest things to offer. Love. I don't ask for anything else but such love as this.

Such love you have already offered and given. I love you with all my heart, I ask nothing of you but to return the love I have for you, to me. I believe you to be the most beautiful flower in the world. I wish nothing more then to be given the opportunity to always be with you and in your presents. I know some times it may seem as that we have nothing to do when together. As I have told you before I have not problem with just sitting with you or walking around. I don't even mind just going shopping with you and being there while you look at things you like or hope to one day have, as long as I am with you. My heart will, In Shaa Allah, always be yours and no one else's. If I bore you tell me. You never bore me. Just seeing you make's me smile. Just seeing you make's my heart sing.

     I love you.

Your Fiance Adam Majewski

Insights in to Ramadan as a Muslim

As this fine month of Ramadan continues it breeds great wisdom and knowledge of ones self, as an individual and as a member of humanity. It allows a person insight it to the human experience, that which a person can achieve on an individual scale. All people are a very social species. many would argue the wording of what I say of us being a species. Mainly because many feel we are not animals, yet on our base levels of anything that is what we are. We are all in all animals, ones which have evolved to a point in which we have a kind a of intilectual awareness which is some what higher then other life forms on earth. we are the domanent animal created by God as stewerds. Ones to watch over others. Many how ever do not share the same feelings on this matter as my self yet, I am at a point in my life where I do not really care. My reasoning is cause I know that I need to at least do my part and do what I feel God wants of me. This how ever I am not fully sure of yet. What i feel he want's me to be is that of a runner. I run not only because it is good for me but I'm also good at it. I run for my fiance so I can continue to be there for her and live a long life. Even though the langth of my life is unknown what I do know is that I need to try my best to be there for my fiance. For as long as possible. Not only for her, but for my self as well.

Love Letters From Islam

To my dearest Khadra

like the love we both have for Allah I have in the deepest parts of my heart for you. Ingrained in every fiber of my being. A true love shared by very few yet miss understood by many on on Allah's green earth. The mere thought of you makes my heart sing with the greatest joy any many can experience. That which is almost as great as a life in service to God. In Shaa Allah, my love for you will always stay true and never be lost. The life I wish to live will never be with out you.

Like the old saying goes behind all great men there are even greater women. If I am ever great it is because of you. my actions and choices are for you and Allah no one else. Not even my self. I will only be great because of the greatness you have instilled with in me.

Your Loving Fiance Adam Majewski.

Twin Cities Race Training Entry 3

Well race training this time around is really not going as expected. I've had to do a lot of cross training and not as much running in order to prepare my body for the marathon. Also though this time around I am fasting through part of my training so it is clearly understandable. I've had to adopt my training to the lack of hydration and replacement food, for energy. I have how ever got a renewal in my want to finish planning my run from Chicago, IL to Santa Monica CA. I have started again researching its feasibility rate as well how I would go about paying for such a venture. I have also been looking at different Non-profits. Among the top choices the only one I feel truly drawn to is the same one I am currently running for in the Twin Cities Marathon, GDM(Global Deaf Muslims) Twin Cities chapter. So far it is going well.

I this week how ever got bronchitis which has curved my training so far a lot of it has to do with the lack of hydration during my training sessions because of Ramadan. Not that I'm complaining I'm just stating the facts and obvious about it all. I am a nutrition student and so know not everything but quit a bit about  how the body works. I could how ever always learn more. What I do know has allowed me to be able to make sure I am properly kept nutritionally healthy to the best of my ability. How ever I still need to work on it.
